In addition to the games, students from Toyonaka stayed with host families and visited local scenic sites. While we're sad to say goodbye, we hope this year's exchange helped strengthen the bond between our two cities. We look forward to hosting our friends from Toyonaka again soon! Public Works Train Quiet Zone Program Community Survey (Deadline Extended to August 12) We invite you to take our Community Survey to share your thoughts regarding the Train Quiet Zone Program. The survey deadline has been extended to Tuesday, August 12th, 2025. Your feedback is essential as the City considers options to reduce train horn noise and improve safety. Take the Community Survey in English and Spanish. Take the Survey Parks and Recreation A Friendly Reminder to Leash Up in San Mateo Parks August is National Dog Month, a time to celebrate our furry friends! As we enjoy the beautiful parks and open spaces in San Mateo, it's also a perfect opportunity to be responsible pet owners and ensure our community stays safe for everyone. We're reminding all residents that, with the exception of designated off-leash areas, all dogs must be on a leash in San Mateo parks. This isn't just about following the law; it's about protecting our pets and our neighbors. Even the most well-behaved dog can be unpredictable. A sudden squirrel, an unexpected sound, or a tense encounter with another dog could lead to an injury or a bite. In fact, a recent survey found that 15% of dog owners reported their dog being attacked at a public dog park or spaceโ€”a risk that is significantly reduced by simply keeping your dog on a leash. A non-aggressive but overly excited dog can also knock over small children or chase wildlife, which can also lead to injury. By leashing your dog, you're not just following a rule; you're actively managing their interactions and preventing potential conflicts. You're creating a safer and more peaceful environment for everyone, from small children to other pets. Your Dog's New Favorite Day: Central Bark is August 17! Looking for a fun way to celebrate National Dog Month? Bring your leashed pup to Central Bark on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from Noon to 3 p.m. We're packing the park with fun for everyone.
