-------- LOS ALTOS OFFERING EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS KITS TO RESIDENTS ---------

Los Altos, Calif. — March 8, 2021 — The City recently announced the
opening of the 2020-21 Community and Emergency Preparedness Grants Program,
with new readiness package options.

The Community and Emergency Preparedness Grants (CEPG) program launched two
years ago, funding neighborhood projects to improve emergency preparedness
and strengthen community. Now Los Altos recipients can choose between various
predefined packages-CPR/AED training, handheld radios, or emergency medicine
kits-to further strengthen neighborhood preparedness.

“Last year, local and national emergencies underscored the importance of
emergency preparedness within our own households and community,” said Mayor
Neysa Fligor. “We’re excited to build out this program and provide these
additional resources, which we hope will help our residents be better
prepared for emergencies, while also learning life-saving skills.”

To be eligible for the CEPG packages, an applicant must be a resident of the
City of Los Altos and be in a *Block Action Team

https://www.losaltosca.gov/police/page/neighborhood-watch*. If a neighborhood
is not yet registered, the neighborhood can sign up at the same time as a
CEPG package is requested. The applicant can choose one of four predefined
package options:

* *Neighborhood CPR/AED Training:* All residents in the Block Action Team
(BAT) or Neighborhood Watch group will have the opportunity to learn
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and the use of an Automated External
Defibrillator, and earn their two-year American Heart Association
certification card.
* *Stop-the-Bleed Kits:* Households will take the Stop-the-Bleed class and
receive a basic supply kit. Stop-the-Bleed teaches three quick actions to
help save the lives of those who are severely bleeding.
* *Family Radio Service (FRS) Radios:* Neighborhood emergency preparedness
volunteers use these radios to communicate during the response to an
event. The neighborhood group can request up to two sets of radios.
* *Earthquake Emergency Medical Kits:* These kits go beyond a standard
first aid kit by stocking supplies that would be needed to treat
earthquake-related injuries. A neighborhood group may request up to three
kits.

The CEPG program will distribute the grant packages, to qualifying
neighborhoods, on a rolling basis from the time of the 2020-21 program’s
announcement until the budget is exhausted, or until May 21, 2021, whichever
comes first.
